Natural resources

What are natural resources?

 Is something that is found in nature and can be used by people.

 Earth’s natural resources include light, air, water, plants, animals,
soil, stone, minerals, and fossil fuels.
 Peopleneed some natural resources to stay alive. They use others to
make their lives better.
Renewable natural resources:

• Can be replenished
• Are available continuously
• Their quantity is not noticeably affected by human consumption.
• Do not have a rapid recovery rate
• Are susceptible to depletion if they are overused.

• Examples : sunlight, air, and wind animals and plants

Non-renewable natural resources

 Form extremely slow and do not naturally form in the environment.

 Their rate of consumption exceeds the rate of recovery.

 Examples: minerals, gas and fossil fuels.

Climate change

 Climate change describes a change in

the average conditions — such as
temperature and rainfall.
Deforestation

 Species-rich wild forests are being

destroyed, especially in the tropics, often
to make way for cattle ranching, soybean
or palm oil plantations, or other
agricultural monocultures.
Species extinction.

 wild animals are being

hunted to extinction for
bushmeat, ivory, or
"medicinal" products.
Overpopulation.

 Human population continues to

grow rapidly worldwide.
Humanity entered the 20th
century with 1.6 billion people;
right now, we're about 7.5
billion.
Pollution

 the addition of any substance or any form

of energy (such as heat, sound, or
radioactivity) to the environment at a
rate faster than it can be dispersed,
diluted, decomposed, recycled, or stored
in some harmless form.

How can we help?

 Reduce: Reduce the amount of unnecessary things.

 Reuse: Do not throw things that can continue being use.
 Recycle: Make new ítems out of old ones.
Renewable energy
 Produce energy from natural resources.
 Energy that do not deplete or can be replenished within a human's life
time.
 The most common examples include wind, solar, geothermal, biomass,
and hydropower.
