 WHAT IS CRISPR / CAS9
TECHNOLOGY?

It is a molecular tool used to

“edit” or “correct” the genome
of any cell.
 CRISPR=Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic
Repeats.

Cas9=Series of proteins, mainly nucleases, which were named after the

CRISPR associated system.
It would be something like molecular scissors
that are capable of cutting any DNA molecule
doing it in addition to a very precise and fully
controlled way.
“THAT ABILITY TO CUT THE DNA IS WHAT ALLOWS YOU TO MODIFY YOUR
SEQUENCE, REMOVING OR INSERTING NEW DNA.”
• Regulate gen expression
• Label specific genome sites
in living cells
• Identify and modify gene
functions and correct
defective genes
• It is also already being used
to create animal models to
study complex diseases
such as schizophrenia
 How will life change us?

In the relatively near future it will

help to cure diseases whose genetic
cause is known and that until now
were incurable.
