PepsiCo
• Indra Nooyi joined PepsiCo in the year 1994 and had an immediate
influence on the company’s strategic direction.
• In 1997 Pepsi elected to spin off its Pizza Hut, KFC and Taco bell resturants
for $4.5bn to slash its debt mountain and accelarate the busineess
proceddings.
• The following year Nooyi played a key role in the acquisition of Tropicana
and placed itself in direct competition with rival Coca Cola- owner of
Minute Maid.
• In the year 2000 PepsiCo bought Quaker Oats. This also gave Pepsi control
over Quaker very popoular and lucrative sports drink brand Gatorade.
• Through these acquisitions Nooyi was successful in giving PepsiCo a
healthier outlook which was her vision from the very beginning.
• Low on calorie and lighter options of snacks, chips and frizzy drinks were
made available to cater to the needs of all people and keep the company in
sync with the healthy lifestyle that people have adopted.
