Introduction of
Behavioural Theories

MEANING:
Behavior is the actions and
mannerisims made by individuals
in conjunction with themselves or
their environment. It is the
response of an individual to
various stimuli or inputs, whether
internal or external.
Behavioral Theories are
divided into Three
categories

 Content theories
 Process theories
 Contemporary theories
CONTENT THEORIES

 A theory that tries to explain why


employees behave in the way that they
do.
 Content theories explain the specific
factors that motivate people at work.
Maslow, Herzberg and Alder give their
significant contribution to content
theories which are as follows:-

 Hierarchy of Needs
• Physiological needs
• Safety needs
• Social needs
• Esteem needs
• Self- actualization needs
 Two Factor Theory of Motivation
• Hygiene theory
• Motivational factors
 Erg Theory
• Existence needs
• Relatedness needs
• Growth needs
PROCESS THEORIES

They look at the related proceedings


that go into motivation or effort,
particularly the way they relate to one
another
Process theories are

 Expectancy theories
• Valence
• Expectancy
• Instrumentality
CONTEMPORARY THEORIES

describe the modern concept of how
people motivates at work

 Attribution Theory
