Assignment 7
What is it?
Voice Output Communication
Aids (VOCA) is a device used by
students or people who have
severe disabilities making them
nonverbal to communicate.
How is it used in the classroom?

Students can use the device to

more effectively communicate
with teachers or aides.
Why is it important?
VOCA is important because without it
students who are nonverbal are left trying to
communicate through pointing, facial
expressions, or eye movements. This can be
frustrating for the student and the teacher
and is not as effective as a communication
device.
pros

•Allows for communication

•Aids teacher and student in
understanding
cons

•Is expensive
•May not be covered by school or
personal insurance
