I’ve known I wanted to be a teacher since the fifth grade. I, like everyone, have had both

good and bad teachers. One teacher especially stood out to me. I had a really amazing teacher in

the fifth grade named Mr. Charelton who was funny and kind. I learned what a good teacher

should be. He inspired me to want to be a teacher as well. As I got older I continued to want to

be a teacher because I discovered that I love children and their ability to learn and be open-

minded.

I currently work as a private tutor for children who have specific learning disabilities. I

have been working with students between third and eighth grade. I feel like my job has helped

solidify my desire to become a teacher. The experience of working with these children has made

me feel more ready to be a teacher.

My senior year of highschool I had the opportunity to student teach in an adult special

education highschool and I really enjoyed my experience. I hope to teach in a similar

environment where I work with students between the ages of 16 to 21. I found the life and work

training skills to be really useful to the students and fun to participate in and help teach.

I am in my second year here at CSN. I am a Special Education major but I also hope to

get my masters degree in Speech Pathology. I plan on working as a special education teacher

while I continue pursuing my education for Speech Pathology.

I feel I can offer compassion and understanding to this profession. I am very passionate

about working with kids and am excited to contribute to the education of students. I hope to be a

teacher who is organized and can create a fun environment for the students.

The only concern I have regarding teaching is that different states have different

requirements for teaching and I plan to move after I get my degrees and some work experience. I
spoke with a teaching mentor about my concerns and she told me that if I were to move states

then I would most likely just need to get a couple classes finished at a local college.

My personal interests include spending time with friends and traveling. I try to spend as

much time socializing while keeping my school and work life balanced. I have been to Italy,

France, Germany, Mexico, England, Ireland, Scotland, and most recently I’ve been to Australia.

I hope to travel more in the near future. I will sometimes travel through this really cool program

called World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF) where I travel to work on an

organic farm in exchange for room and board. I have done this twice in Italy, once where I

worked at a vineyard and another time where I worked on a rose garden. I would highly

recommend this to anyone who has the desire to travel cheaply and enjoys the outdoors and

organic farming culture.
