INTRODUCTION
• The Travancore Cochin Chemicals Limited (TCC), a
government of kerala undertaking is a pioneer in the
field of manufacturing caustic soda and chlorine
products which are basic alkali units in India. It was the
first Mercury cell plant for manufacturing caustic sod in
the country and hence it was the pioneer producer of
rayon grade caustic soda in India. TCC is said to be the
mother industry as the products acts as raw materials
for other industries. The company has a good track
record of operations and healthy industrial relationship.

PROFILE OF THE COMPANY
The Travancore Cochin Chemicals popularly
known as TCC is a state public sector
undertaking established in 1950. The idea of
establishing was by M/S Sheshasayee Brothers
the Managing agents of FACT. In 1951 it was
registered as a public limited company with
the state government contributing the major
share of equity. Commercial production of
caustic soda was started in 1954 January.

EMPLOYEE WELFARE MEASURES
• Welfare measures are classified into statutory and non-
statutory.
• Statutory welfare comprises of those provisions which are
binding on employer by law. This is related to certain
essential working conditions and health. They are annual
bonus, accident benefit,drinking water storing and drying
facilities ,health facilities and educational allowance.
• The non-statutory welfare programs provided voluntarily
by employer and housing facilities, medical attendance
schemes, group accident policy, production bonus,
voluntary retirement schemes and performance appraisal .

• Corporate social responsibilty (CSR) is a self-regulating business
model that helps a company to be socially accountable to
itself,to stakeholders and the public. TCC operates in a way that
it enchances society and the environment.
• Community hall for public functions.
• TCC have a colony where people of Eloor region reside.
• They provide industrial training to the graduates.
• The graduates can get in TCC as trainees and can later be
appointed as employees based on their skill.
• TCC provides platform for qualified persons to get into the
organisations through walk in interviews.

SWOT ANALYSIS
• STRENGTH
• Products of TCC are the basic chemicals which are considered
to be the building blocks of chemical industry.
• TCC have skilled work force,educated staff and professional
qualified managers in good numbers.
• Strategic location with no other competitors around at
present.
• The company has not faced any strike for past few years
because of execellent management labour.
• TCC has 80% market share for its product in the state of
Kerala.

• WEAKNESS
• The infrastructure of the company is obsolete compare
to others.
• No flexibility in the organisation because TCC is a
public sector undertaking and the major decisions
delays the implementation of plans.
• Raw salt is not available in vicinity so transportation
cost is high.
• Employees cost is high in TCC compared to other
companies.

• OPPORTUNITIES
• Generating their own power may result in lower cost
of key input
• Economic development in the country may increase
the demand of products.
• Caustic soda industry is subjected to a business cycle,
which may turn feasible in future.
• Overall increase in the business and trade in economy
wil result in increasing the demand for the products.

• Competition from foreign countries.
• Cost of electricity is high.
• The infrastructure of the company is obselete
compared to other countries
• The import duty of the government is not
favourable.It causes fluctuations in the price
of the products.

FINDINGS
• The strength of TCC is the quality of their products,services
and the delivery.
• No strikes have been reported for the past 20 years.It
showes better workers and management relationships.
• The company is depending heavily on electricity and 60% of
the production cost comes under this
• New technology of Membrane cell has the advantage of
pollution free environment and also bring reduction in
power consumption.
• No major environment pollution has been reported for the
last 50 years.

SUGGESTIONS

• One of the major raw material is electricity which is an


important factor of production.So it is better to look for an own
mini power plant.
• The company should motivate the employee to increase the
production
• The company can improve the supply of products by introducing
new distribution channels.
• Price is the main factor which customer looks for. So TCC should
take certain adjustment in the price
• It is advisable to find an alterntive source of energy such as solar
or wind in order to reduce the overhead cost on electricity.

CONCLUSION
• TCC Ltd is a state owned undertaking engaged in manufacture of basic
chemicals. TCC’s products have national reputation for quality and
company gives high priority to customer satisfaction. From 1995-96
company had recorded steady growth in production as well as sales. After
the period even though the sale remain on an average the company could
not make any profit. Higher electric charges also affected the profit of the
company. Several innovations, modernization scheme were implemented
to achieve energy conservation, environmental control and economy
inputs. As per the study conducted in the organisation, the capacity of
production is increasing and the company is moving into more profitable
stages.TCC is trying hard to remain on top position by utilizing and
maintaining its resources to the maximum. The strength of the
organisation is the proper administration and social system which plays a
ital role in achieving its goal.
