Family History in Wuthering Heights
Things we keep inside the family. Traditions

• WHY ARE TRADITIONS IMPORTANT FOR THE

FAMILY?
In every family there need to be traditions. Family
traditions keep the members close and engaged.
When they are passed upon generations, that
means that the previous generation left something
valuable for the next one.
Our lives are fast-paced, high-stress, busy and all
over the place. Things change so rapidly and what
we attach ourselves to can come and go with the
blink of an eye. Tradition gives us an opportunity to
live in the moment and enjoy something that we
have created as a family.
Sibling Rivalry. Why Siblings Quarrel.

     Competition
 Sometimes kids feel like they have to fight for their parents’ attention, and do this by
fighting with each other. You don’t have to fight to get attention: There are other great ways
to get your parents’ attention like trying your best at school or in a sport. Helping around the
house is also another great way to get approval from your parents who might feel overtired
or overworked.
 Siblings may sometimes quarrel because they want the parents’ attention
 You are total opposites
 Sometimes siblings have nothing in common, and so can’t get along. One of you loves
romantic movies and the other loves action thrillers – how will you ever watch TV together?!
 Sometimes it helps to learn more about your sibling and their interests. Take your sibling’s
opposite interests as a chance to learn more about the world!
Sibling Rivalry
examples in
Wuthering Heights.
 Heathcliff vs Catherine
 Throughout the book, sibling rivalry occurs most
amongst Heathcliff and Catherine.
 This is because Heathcliff noticed that Catherine
would value others, money, or status above him.
 Although Catherine loved Heathcliff, the most
rivalry occurred when Catherine chose Edgar
Linton over Heathcliff. Heathcliff despised that,
 When Heathcliff returned he got a form of revenge
by marrying Catherine’s husband, Edgar Linton’s,
sister (Isabella).
 Catherine got heartbroken to see her true love
married to Isabella.
 Catherine’s death was brought on because of
sibling rivalry.
Sibling Rivalry examples in
Wuthering Heights.

 Heathcliff vs Hindley:
 First occurred when Mr Earnshaw brought home Heathcliff to the family.
 Hindley despised Heathcliff once his own father (Mr. Earnshaw) began to love Heathcliff more than
him.
 Once Mr. Earnshaw passed away and Hindley inherited Wuthering Heights; Hindley grew to despise
Heathcliff more.
 Hindley made Heathcliff a servert or told Heathcliff that he would have to leave
 This was another occurrence of sibling rivalry because Hindley got his form of revenge on Heathcliff.
 Heathcliff got his revenge on Hindley when he returned to Wuthering Heights after three years and
took advantage of Hindley when he is at his lowest point due to alcohol, then obtaining ownership
of Wuthering Heights.
 The sibling rivalry is very evident because Heathcliff and Hindley only want what each other have
and despise each other.
