When do we use the comparative?
Look and read…
Some comparatives are irregular…
With the comparative of superiority we use than after
the adjective:
→ old → older than
With the comparative of equality we use as + adjective
+ as (for all adjectives – regular + irregular):
→ old → as old as
→ good → as good as
Adjectives with add -er or -r to the
1 or 2 syllables adjective old → older than
(adjective + -er + than) large → larger than

Adjectives with replace -y with -i and add


2 syllables that -er to the adjective busy → busier than
end in -y (adjective + -ier + than) easy → easier than

Adjectives with put more before the popular → more popular than
2 or more adjective expensive → more expensive
syllables (more + adjective + than) than
Short adjectives ending in
consonant + vowel + consonant
double the final consonant:
→ big → bigger than
→ thin → thinner than
→ fat → fatter than
