 The past month of October
in Chile happened the
denominated social outbreak
in which the citizens fight
for their rights of having a
dignified life. Because of
this national contingency,
the ratings in tourism in the
country has decreased
drastically.

FOURTH
SEMESTER
The total of visitors who came
to Chile in the fourth semester
of 2018 is 1.612.244 people,
leaving an income of
799.555.563 foreign exchange
(USD).
TOURISM 2019
JANUARY - AUGUST
The sub-secretary of Tourism published the
figure of tourists who have arrived between
January and august of 2019. The entity
highlighted the growth of some strategic
countries between this period like Spain
(11,9%), The United States (9,9%), Canada
(9,1%), Germany (7,8%), Mexico (7,8%),
England (6,9%), Colombia (6,4%), China
(6,3%), France (4,2%) and Australia (1,7%).

OCTOBER
The arrivals of tourists fall in
17,1% the month of the social
outbreak and the authorities
warn about a bigger impact in
the future. The undersecretary
of tourism, Mónica Zalaquett,
explains that the data of
October reveals the crisis of the
country. ''It isn't evident still‘’
she says. However, the data
projects an even bigger impact
in the following months of
November and December.

According to the monthly
report during the month
of the social outbreak,
306.142 visitors arrived
in the country, registering
a decrease of 17,1%
between the same period
of 2018. ''(...) the hotel
occupancy will barely
overcome the 30% in
months that should be
over 70%.''
 The port of San Antonio is
going to be handling 90% of
the cruises that arrive in
Chile during 2019. However,
the president of the workers
forum says ''Like a way of
support to the social
movement that is taking
place along the country‘’ and
with this context, the
workers of the port of San
Antonio, the principal
exporter of the fruits of
Chile, joined the call and

days.

Due to the national contingency, there has
been a drop in the touristic activity on
Valparaíso, in the hotel mobility. By the
data that exists in the tourism industry, there
is a drop of 70% between this year and last
year the same month.

 The principal forum of
tourism estimate a fall
of tourists next year,
around 30% and 35%
of arrivals will decrease
at a comparison of this
year. If the contingency
proceeds, the drop
could reach even 80%.
