Situational Analysis po ng tourism industry Region 12

Company

The Department of Tourism Building in Mindanao played host to "Treasures of Sox" for
Region 12, popularly known as SOCCSKSARGEN, for two weeks, providing a boon to
the region's tourist hotspots.

This current showcase on south-central Mindanao supports DOT's thrusts of developing

and promoting the different tourist destinations in that part of the Philippines, which
have been left behind," "As a destination, south-central Mindanao's enchanting culture
and traditions, as well as its pristine nature and adventure features, are ideal for
millennials to visit and enjoy, including those born with Filipino ancestry in other
countries. The name "Region 12" is an initialism for the region's four provinces and one
of its cities: South Cotabato, Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, and Sarangani (General
Santos). Officials in the tourism industry were urged to visit the Philippine Showroom to
familiarize themselves with the variations in offerings across the country.

Tourism from both within the country and abroad, particularly from South Koreans,
Americans, and Japanese, has increased by 85 percent since 2013, as reported by
DOT Region 12 Director Nelly Nita Dillera. There was a 44% increase in the number of
businesses with DOT accreditation at the required and secondary levels. Products such
as tuna chicharon, taro chips, chocolate tablea by Kablon Farms, crispy dilis, and more
may be found among the many other items for sale at the SOCCSKSARGEN store.

Customers

In 2018, the tourism industry was expected to have contributed 12.7% to the GDP of the
Philippines, as measured by its share of Tourism Direct Gross Value Added (TDGVA).
The tourism sector's total domestic value added (TDGVA) is a useful statistic for
gauging the economic impact of the many businesses that cater to tourists from both
abroad and at home. As of 2018, TDGVA was PhP 2.2 trillion, an increase of 14.3
percent over 2017's record-breaking PhP 1.9 trillion.
The most recent findings from the Philippine Tourism Satellite Accounts (PTSA) are
used to calculate the TDGVA estimate. The PTSA also includes data on tourism-related
expenditures and employment in 2018. Additional significant findings from PTSA
include:

The spending of non-resident visitors (foreign tourists and Filipinos living permanently
abroad) within the Philippines decreased by 1.6% in 2018, to a total of PhP 441.4
billion, from PhP 448.6 billion the year before. An estimated 8.0% of overall exports
were attributed to foreign tourist spending. Following the 31.5 percent share held by
"other services" and the 22.8 percent share held by semiconductors, inbound tourism
rated as 2018's third largest export.

By using an approach called "ecotourism," we can keep the tourism industry going while
protecting the environment and helping local economies. To ensure the success of
ecotourism, the country must have efficient regulations and administration in place to
prevent environmental degradation at the hands of curious tourists. Ecotourism can
have a good impact on a country's economy, but only if regulations are put in place to
ensure that its many positive aspects don't cause any unintended harm (Yu, 2020).
More popular and physically demanding forms of ecotourism may improve the allure of
the industry for regions interested in ecotourism's potential economic benefits. The
municipality of Bayabas in the province of Surigao del Sur can benefit from this rule as it
relates to the growth of the city as a sustainable tourist destination. The tourism industry
is a major employer. Income is generated rapidly for both large and small enterprises in
the tourism industry. Those businesses that employ locals and pay taxes to the
government, so ensuring a steady income for families (Maliberan, 2019).
Technologies

Some tourists may have a negative experience in Surigao Del Sur because of outdated
technology in the tourism business. They are using technology to inform or interact with
guests, showing how much easier and more efficient it is to give outstanding services to
tourists than businesses in Cebu. The global reach of businesses has increased thanks
to the ease with which online transactions can now be completed. With less barriers to
interaction and communication across national boundaries, marketing products and
services is now a less time-consuming and more cost-effective process (IvyPanda,
2022). In addition, the technologies used are pleasant to the user; they incorporated the
use of social media, smartphone apps, and online travel agencies (Maravilla, Gantalao,
2019). Surigao Del Sur Tandag Airport is an antiquated facility that lacks the modern
conveniences that visitors to any destination would expect, such as ATMs, wifi, and
other similar amenities. The province of Surigao del Sur hopes that an influx of tourists
will spur further development of the area and the creation of new local jobs.

Mainly, the tourism business benefits from the generation of new income and new
employment opportunities. It's the primary source of prosperity for a great number of
nations and areas. Access to assets to extend necessary infrastructure and the capacity
to meet the wants of tourists are crucial to the state's economic potential to profit from
the tourism industry. In the context of contemporary civilization, represents travel. The
purpose of this research was to investigate the myriad connections and entanglements
that exist between the travel industry and the world of finance, as well as the factors that
determine the value that the sector brings to specific markets. The positive effects of
tourism on intrusion areas were discussed, as was the industry's role as a catalyst for
growth and development. The author illustrated these characteristics through a case
study of a micro-destination like Romania, where he or she highlighted the objective's
constituent elements and how they interact with local and national economic
organizations.

According to, the tourist industry is the backbone of the Nepalese economy. Travelers
visiting Nepal typically come for one of five major reasons: leisure, business, adventure,
or official purposes. Because of its success, it has helped the people of Nepal find
gainful jobs. There is a wide variety of interesting things to see and do in the
Philippines, and its natural and cultural legacy is a big part of why it is so popular with
tourists. The combination of this benefit with other positive features helps partners
develop a tourist program that is both environmentally and socially responsible,
resulting in increased economic growth and a wider distribution of job possibilities. It's
no secret that the Philippines relies heavily on the revenue brought in by its booming
tourism sector. It generates income through taxes, foreign exchange, and employment,
and contributed 5.8% of gross value to GDP from 2000-2010.

However, the tourist sector is the country's primary source of new jobs. Businesses of
all sizes, as well as households, benefit from the tourism industry's rapid production of
cash. Individuals receive wages from tourism-related occupations, while the government
receives tax payments. The Philippine government uses the money from tourists to fund
attractions, tours, and souvenirs. The influx of jobs in tourist hotspots fosters
occupational and skills development, which in turn paves the way for youth education
and the export of exceptional services from the government. Tourism's job-creating
potential was highlighted by as a reason why it has the potential to play a pivotal role in
stimulus initiatives.

Competitors

There are issues with society, technology, the economy, and the environment in
SOCCSKSARGEN as a whole. This paper aims to assess the strengths, weaknesses,
opportunities, and threats to determine the development that fits the destination, the
strategies that could support the suggested tourism developments, potential methods to
market the destination municipality, and ways to further address the safety and security
aspect of the province as a whole as well as the technological challenges that the
municipality of Bayabas faces. The province's tourism business is in good shape, as
seen by the notable rise in visitors from 2013 to 2016. However, resort operators
frequently provide subpar customer service and even declare bankruptcy because they
use the incorrect method for calculating monthly visitor arrivals. Therefore, it is
necessary to predict both domestic and international visitor arrivals so that the
estimated number can serve as a basis for careful examination and planning. This can
help meet their demands for hotel rooms, food preparation, leisure, and other tourism-
related activities. Additionally, this number could be employed to promote the province's
social, economic, and physical growth. Thus, the purpose of this study was to forecast
the number of tourists who would visit the Philippine province.

Collaborators

Those who took part in this research were either "primary" or "secondary" stakeholders,
meaning that they either directly or indirectly profited from the leisure tourist industry.
Domestic and foreign visitors, travel agents, tour guides, leisure tourism operators,
employees, and leisure tourism business entrepreneurs constituted the core
stakeholders, while locals, LGU officials, and local tourism organizations constituted the
secondary stakeholders. One hundred and ninety (190) primary and secondary
stakeholders were selected using a purposive selection strategy and were actively
involved in the leisure tourism business in the selected towns in the southern part of
Cebu, Philippines.

In this section, you'll find information that will serve as a starting point for addressing the
issues raised by the leisure tourism industry's stakeholders regarding the sector's
competitiveness with respect to policy rules and regulations, safety and security,
environmental sustainability, health and hygiene, air transport infrastructure, ground
transport infrastructure, water transport infrastructure, and price potential pitfalls in
protecting the leisure tourist business. The researcher wrote a transmittal letter to all of
the municipalities, asking the Municipal Mayor for permission to perform the study. After
gaining approval, the researcher will hand-deliver copies of the research questionnaire
and interview participants in person. We collected the completed surveys from the
respondents right away. The researcher briefed the participants on the goals of the
study. Respondents were asked to sign a consent form after they were given an
overview of the study and indicated their willingness to participate in it and provide
feedback. The interview was recorded with the respondent's permission. After 6 months,
we'll get rid of the recording's backup.
Climate

Municipal governments are autonomous bodies that are chosen by the general public
and have the responsibility of promoting regional development. They have a lot of
freedom to create local policies and standards as long as they don't go against the law
at the federal level. The ability to access internal infrastructure as well as the cultural
setting that shapes the local economy and methods of resource management should be
taken into consideration. Surigao del Sur's Bayabas municipality faces issues on the
social, technical, economic, and environmental fronts. To support advancements in the
province, not just in the municipality of Bayabas, it is necessary to evaluate what
policies and/or strategies could support the proposed tourism developments, potential
marketing techniques for the destination municipality, and additional approaches to
addressing the province's general safety and security, technological gaps, economic
constraints on economic growth, and failure to address environmental issues.

An approach to the municipality that follows the "trickle-down principle" is possible; the
barrio has control and jurisdiction over its territory. The barangay officials are
accountable for the municipality's improvement. The barangay chairman, the barangay
council, and neighborhood business owners must all work toward the municipality's
success. In addition to enhancing living standards, the municipality's economy must
also increase. Since the municipality of Bayabas places a lot of emphasis on the
Surigao del Sur province's natural environment, this can also benefit the locals of
Bayabas because tourists are drawn to the area by the natural beauty of the area and
will visit Bayabas more frequently as a result. enhancing the quality of life for locals.

According to, integrated autoregressive moving average models have had a significant
impact on time series models, which have been widely used in the past for tourism
demand forecast. Despite the fact that the SARIMA model was discovered to be the
most effective model to predict visitor numbers in the aforementioned research. One
metric used to evaluate it is the Mean Absolute Percentage Error (MAPE). MAPE was
9.38% in that investigation. The implication is that the model's accuracy is
compromised. The ability to accurately predict the demand for tourism improves the
efficiency of the business sector, boosts economic growth, and increases household
income.

They concluded that a model with the ability to make short-term forecasts on visitor
arrivals and to gauge macroeconomic shocks in the home nation could be an effective
strategy for predicting future demand for tourism. When it comes to making out-of-
sample predictions over the course of a year, ARIMA is superior to exponential
smoothing models.

Time series analysis, in particular, can foretell tourist numbers by looking at historical
trends. Numerous studies on the topic of tourist visits have been published recently.
Policymakers typically implement measures based on sound scientific research in order
to ensure sustainability. When it comes to tourism, the industry contributes significantly
to the economy of many different nations and regions. Taking a stand for the value of
scientific forecasting. This is consistent with the findings of which identify planning and
forecasting as cornerstones of sane decision-making. In the tourism industry as
anywhere, accurate forecasts of future visitor numbers are essential for effective
planning.

Moving Average is applied in order to smooth the data. This is the second stage of
forecasting the data. The third box is extracting seasonal and irregular data component.
This means that peak and lean season on the arrival of tourist is being computed and
extracted out from the baseline which is the moving average. This next box is getting
the seasonal index. Since the researcher is forecasting tourist arrival by month and
there are twelve months in a year. It means that there are also twelve seasonal index
that must be computed for one year. The next step is to de-seasonalize the data. This is
done by dividing the original data which is the monthly tourist arrival by the seasonal
index. The next step is finding the trend component of the tourist arrival using simple
linear regression. Simple Linear Regression is used in order to determine if there is a
trend that exists based on the characteristics of the data. The seventh box is applying
the multiplicative decomposition model. Once the trend is already calculated, the
monthly tourist arrival forecasted is calculated using multiplicative Decomposition
model.
