3. Gastightness test
• The gas charged into the pipes must be nitrogen
• Test procedure should follow steps below

Before and during Exhaust the air in the

test, leave ODU system using vacuum Charge N2 slowly from
gas/liquid valves pump both gas and liquid
closed sides at same time

Big leakage check: 0.3 Small leakage check:

Mirco leakage check:

3.9 MPa for 24 hours
minutes minutes
or more
Gastightness test
• A pressure gauge is needed for pressure test
• Release the pressure before fixing any leaks

• After gastightness test, if vacuum drying is not to be done immediately, reduce the
system pressure down to 1.5MPa
Joint insulation
• After gastightness test, joint insulation can be applied
• Use additional insulation segments to fill the joint gaps

• Separately insulate the indoor unit liquid and gas pipe connectors
Vacuum drying
• To remove air and moisture from the piping system
• Use a vacuum pump with a displacement in excess of 4L/s
• Use a vacuum pump capable of maintaining a pressure of -0.1MPa (-14.5PSI)

Do not open outdoor unit valves while vacuuming

If a vacuum of -0.1MPa can not be achieved, check for

leaks

Liquid side and gas side should be vacuumed

simultaneously
Vacuum drying
• Vacuum drying procedure

• Connect vacuum pump to both sides

• Vacuum for at least 2hrs (or more for

2 large systems)

pipes

Make sure the gastightness test, pipe insulation and vacuuming have been
finished

Charge liquid refrigerant to both sides, use a scale to measure the charged
weight

Upside down

• Turn refrigerant tank upside down to ensure liquid refrigerant charged

• Overcharging refrigerant can cause liquid hammering
• Record the amount charged for future reference
