Types Of Solar Power Plants
Low temperature solar power plant using flat plate
collector (60-1000C )
Medium temperature solar power plant using
concentrated solar collectors (250-4000C, 10-30
KW)
High temperature solar power plant using tower
system (500-7000C, 50-200 KW)
Parabolic trough collector
It consist of a linear parabolic
reflector that concentrates light
onto a receiver positioned along
the reflector focal line .
The receiver is a tube
positioned directly above the
middle of the parabolic mirror
and filled with a working fluid .
It is mostly oil based plant heat
transfer fluid operates at 4000C.
Concentration ratio for a
cylindrical absorber varies from
5 – 30.
Parabolic Trough Collector Power Plant
Central Receiver Tower
Over 5000C temperature
can be obtained .
Receiver uses molten salt
as heat transfer fluid.
These plants has output
ranging from 0.5 -10 MW .
Concentration ratio of
3000 cab be achieved.
Central Receiver Power Plant
Parabolic dish Stirling engine
It is stand alone parabolic reflector system.
It consists of parabolic reflector that concentrates
light onto a receiver positioned at the reflector s focal
point.
The working fluid in the receiver is heated to 250-
7000C and then used by a stirling engine .
System having efficiency up to 30% and generating
power in the range of 8 -50 KW.
Parabolic Dish Stirling Engine
Linear Fresnel Reflector
Linear Fresnel reflector
use long ,thin segments
of mirror to focus
sunlight onto a fixed
absorber located at a
common focal point .
Concentrating sun ‘s
energy approximately 30
times its normal
intensity.

ECONOMIC ANALYSIS
THE VALUE OF SOLAR THERMAL PLANT ULTIMATELY
JUGED ON THE BASIS OF ITS ECONOMY
INITIAL COST
Initial cost of solar thermal system cost of buying the
equipment and installing it. Solar collector contribute
significantly to initial cost.
CCC CO
  C=total initial cost
=component of cost proportional to collector area (Rs)
=component independent of collector area

=collector area
K =proportionality constant
ECONOMIC ANALYSIS
ANNUAL COST
Annual cost of solar system installed is the sum of number of
factors as mention below
ANNUAL COST =FUEL EXPENSES + REPAYMENT ON
LOAN + MAINTENANCE COST + ELECTRICAL ENERGY
BILLS +LOCAL TAXES – TAX DEDUCTION
ECONOMIC FISIBILITY
Economic viability of system depend upon the saving which will
accrue annually on a long term basis as a result of installation of
solar system. Which can be calculated as

ANNUAL SAVING =ANNUAL COST OF CONVENTIONAL

ENERGY SYTEM –ANNUAL COST OF SOLAR ENERGY
SYSTEM OF SAME PERFORMANCE
