Activity: Draw a campus network
Using either paper and pencil or a computer
drawing program, create a diagram detailing this
customer scenario:
• A restaurant chain with 5 restaurants located
within a 50-mile radius wants to network the
stores together, connecting them all to the
main office that has a staff of five. They also
want to start offering guest WiFi for
customers.
• Existing equipment includes a DSL phone line
and two point-of-sale (POS) computers at
each of the stores. The main office has a
broadband connection to an ISP, two servers,
five desktops and two laptops.
• The chain will be installing a new POS system
with handheld devices for the wait staff.

Activity: Top five questions
1. What do you see as your business needs?
2. Would you be willing to share an overview of your current
network?
3. What is the business purpose of your network?
4. What devices are being used on your network?
5. Will you be deploying any 802.11ac Wave 2 or 802.11ax
wireless access points?
6. What types of services, such as VoIP, is your network
supporting?
7. What challenges are you looking to overcome?
8. Do you currently have any initiatives around things like
security, BYOD, or network access control?
9. Are you looking to deploy any additional applications or
technology in your campus in the next few years?

Review

1. Acme Limited has 500 employees and one site. The employees
use tablets and laptops. What would be their networking needs?

Wired and wireless solutions, and security measures for

each solution
2. What best describes the most common campus networking traffic pattern?

North-south

3. After forming a picture of your customer’s current network state,

what would be an effective question to ask next?
Do you currently have any initiatives around things like security, BYOD,
or network access control?
Will you be deploying any 802.11ac Wave 2 or 802.11ax wireless
access points?
