• Electrical engineering is a field of engineering that generally
deals with the study and application of electricity, electronics,
and electromagnetism. This field first became an identifiable
occupation in the later half of the 19th century after
commercialization of the electric telegraph, the telephone, and
electric power distribution and use. Subsequently, broadcasting
and recording media made electronics part of daily life.
• Electrical engineers work in a very wide range of industries
and the skills required are likewise variable. These range from
basic circuit theory to the management skills required of a
project manager. The tools and equipment that an individual
engineer may need are similarly variable, ranging from a
simple voltmeter to a top end analyzer to sophisticated design
and manufacturing software.
• Renewable energy is energy that is collected from renewable
resources, which are naturally replenished on a human
timescale, such as sunlight, wind, rain, tides, waves, and
geothermal heat. Renewable energy often provides energy in
four important areas: electricity generation, air and water
heating/cooling, transportation, and rural (off-grid) energy
services.
• Some of the most prominent
pioneers in electrical
engineering include Thomas
Edison (electric light bulb),
George Westinghouse
(alternating current), Nikola
Tesla (induction motor),
Guglielmo Marconi (radio)
and Philo T. Farnsworth
(television). These
innovators turned ideas and
concepts about electricity
into practical devices and
systems that ushered in the
modern age
