What is the starter?
Once you have verified that all the systems work correctly and it is necessary
to remove and replace the starter, these are the connections and tools that
you have
to consider.
1. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
2. Find the starter and decide if you are going to remove it from above or
below the engine.
3. Locate and disconnect the connections through which the starter motor
receives power.
4. Remove fixing anchors. It may be attached to the gearbox only or to it and
to the engine.
starter parts
• The starter motor consists of the ignition motor, the battery and the
wiring. Under the principle of induction operation of any other electric
motor, the starter motor houses a set of inductor coils, a rotor, several
brushes, an impeller, a solenoid and a fork. All this in a casing that is
usually anchored to the engine, usually on the gearbox
Inductor coils
• passive component of an electrical circuit formed by a wire wound in the
form of a helix that stores energy in a magnetic field through the
phenomenon of self-induction.
rotors
•
mechanical part that transforms the electrical energy stored in the coil into
mechanical energy through electromagnetic induction. It consists of a
drum, the winding and a collector
brushes
•
formed by a paste of carbon and graphite, the brushes emit electrical
energy to the armature. They are anchored to pusher springs to make
contact with the collector and generate electric current.
attack pinion
• transmits the rotational force and the revolutions of the rotor to the crown
of the heat engine.
solenoid
• Also called a contactor, automatic, or starter relay, it connects the starter
sprocket to the flywheel through the fork. Activate the contact terminals
by closing the electrical circuit of the starter motor.
fork
•
element that moves the impeller to the flywheel
sprocket. Normally, it is a piece made of plastic
that joins the solenoid through a groove where it
is imprisoned by the action of a return spring.
Case
• closes the inductor's magnetic circuit. It is made of iron and stores the rest
of the components, generally attached to the gearbox with screws.
