ROAD SYSTEM

introduction
• Road system is deemed one of the most important systems for
transportation and communication development, which is
crucial in the civilization of mankind. Nowadays, road and
highways still remain as the main transportation and
communication systems which stimulate the industrial and
socioeconomic development in many countries, especially
Malaysia. Hence, the road system is always improved from
time to time, to meet the best quality and current
requirements. An efficient and systematic road system is
crucial in the development and modernization of a country,
balancing between urban and rural development. Thus, a good
road system can help in improving the living standards of the
people in the country. Therefore, a proper and systematic
planning is very important to build an efficient road system.
TYPES OF PAVEMENTS

1. Sub-grade : supports load transmitted from the overlying layers


 

2. Sub-base Course : helps to disperse the load from base course to the sub-grade
3. Base Course : supports and disperses traffic loads
4. Binder Course : resists shear besides supporting and dispersing traffic loads
5. Wearing Course : resist abrasion and prevent skidding
