conducting Pre-Instructional Supervisory
Conference
• Explain a needs-based instructional
supervisory pre-conference.
• Simulate the conduct of pre-conference
using appropriate instructional supervisory
tool.
Task : Dyad
Look for a partner. Identify who is partner A and
who is partner B. You will recall and share your
experiences relative to pre-observation
conference by answering the following
questions:
 How did you do your pre-observation
conference?
 How did it affect the teacher’s
classroom performance during the
actual conduct of the lesson?
Partner A takes his turn first. After Partner A has
finished sharing, Partner B takes his turn.

What is Clinical Supervision?
It is an intensive process designed to improve

instruction by:
• by conferring with a teacher on lesson
planning
• observing the lesson
• analyzing the observational data, and
• giving feedback about the observation
Clinical Supervision
The school head/ teacher

• Inquire; don’t challenge
• Uncover; don’t trap
• Draw out; don’t pump
• Guide; don’t dominate
PRE-OBSERVATION QUESTIONS
• How can I be of help to you?
• What specifically do you wish me to look for?
• What specifically do you wish me to know?
• Which among the priority strands would you
like me to focus on? What are the observable
indicators that you want me to see?
• What are your objectives and expectations for
the lesson?
• When and how long would you like me to
observe?
• When can we get together after the lesson?
Creating a Positive Atmosphere
Don’t let the desk be a barricade—

arrange two chairs together in front of
the desk or sit at a table.
Begin the conversation in a friendly and

informal manner—thank the teacher for
participating.
Be goal oriented and accomplish the identified task

shall have agreed on the particular strands to be observed.
• Present your pre-conference simulation in 3-5 minutes
