INTRODUCTION

• Therapeutic touch is basically an art derived from an ancient technique that was called
laying on of hands. This technique is based on the premise that is the healing force of
the therapist that will affect/help on the patient's recovery. The healing is promoted
when the body’s energies are in balance, and then by the therapist passing his hands
over the patient, he can identify energy imbalances.
THE BENEFITS

• Deep relaxation of pain

• Reduction of pain
• Reduction of anxiety
• Faster wound/injury healing
• Promotes health and wellbeing
WHAT IS A SESSION LIKE?

• A typical session of therapeutical touch usually lasts around 15 to 30 minutes. What happens during the
session is that you will sit in a comfortable chair and lie down fully clothed. After that, the Therapeuthic
touch practitioner will begin to discuss your goals for healing. He will then start with a light touch and
hand motions above the skin surface in order to assess and balance the energy in and around the body.
• Therapeutic Touch practitioners generally follow these steps:
• Center themselves in the present moment and stay a calm state of consciousness.
• Asses the client energy field
• Mobilize the client energy field.
• Evaluate and close the treatment
BABIES & THERAPEUTIC TOUCH

• While many people discredit the use of

therapeutic touch since it is a pseudo
science, there has proven to be extremely
beneficial research on the matter.
• Some of the most persuading research has
been found in babies, specifically babies
that are in the NICU.
NICU RESEARCH STUDY

• A study was conducted of 40 newborns who were patients in the

neonatal intensive care unit.
• These 40 newborns had recently gone through a painful procedure.
• Therapeutic touch such as positioning the hands over different regions
of the body for 3 minutes at a time for 20-30 minute sessions.
(MASSAGE Magazine, 2014).
OUTCOMES OF NICU RESEARCH

• The main outcomes that were measure during this study were the heart rate,
respiratory rate, body temperature, and pain intensity.
• The study assessed these vital signs before and after the therapeutic touch session.
• A statistically significant drop was proven in all four areas of the vital signs.
• Pain reduction had the most dramatic drop.
(MASSAGE Magazine, 2014).

skull.
• Each chakra is believed to relate to particular organs of the
body, ailments, colors, elements, and emotions.

connection.
• Third eye: (blue), intuitive, insightful.
• Throat: (light blue), communicative, calming,
tranquil.

confident, calming.
• Solar Plexus: (yellow), refreshes, joy, peace.
• Sacral: (orange), rejuvenates, releases,

incorporated the idea of chakras into their own vision
