President Corazon Aquino’s government had three (3) options regarding the constitution: 1. Revert to the 1935 constitution 2.Retain the 1973 constitution 3.Be granted the power to make reforms, or start a new and break from the “vestiges of a disgraced dictatorship.” The Aquino’s government decided to make a new constitution that should be “truly reflective of the aspiration and ideals of the Filipino people.” In 1986, a constitutional convention was created, composed of 48 members appointed by President Aquino from varied backgrounds and and presentation. The convention drew up a permanent constitution, largely restoring the setup abolished by Marcos in 1972, but with new ways to keep the president in check, a new reaction to the experience of Marco’s rule. The new constitution was officially adopted on february 2, 1987 The constitution begins with a preamble and eighteen (18) self- contained articles. It established the Philippines as a “Democratic Republican State” where “sovereignity resides in the people of all government authority emantes from them. IT ALLOCATES GOVERNMENTAL POWERS AMONG EXECUTIVE, LEGISLATIVE, AND JUDICIARY.
