ASSIGNMENT 01
CONTROL SYSTEMS

A control system is a system of devices or set of devices, that manages,

commands, directs or regulates the behavior of other devices or systems to
achieve desired results.
In other words, it can be simplified as a system, which controls other
systems.
Control systems are categorized into two types due to the means of control
Open loop control system and
 closed loop control systems
The two techniques for systems were inverted so as to make the system to
become more efficient and reliable.
OPEN LOOP CONTROL SYSTEM
In an open loop system, the inputs proceed to the given process and
produces output. There is no feedback back into the system as for the
system to ‘know’ how close the actual output is to the desired output
comes.

CLOSED LOOP CONTROL SYSTEM
In a closed loop control system, the system has the ability to check
how far the actual output deviates from the desired output (as time
approaches infinity, this difference is known as the steady state error).

OUTPUT RESPONSES OF THE SYSTEM
Output response of the control system is mainly determined by the
nature of the input signal.
The responses are namely;
Unit impulse response
Unit step response and
unit ramp response
FIRST ORDER CONTROL SYSTEMS
This is the system whose input-output equation is a first order
differential equation. The order of the differential equation is the
highest degree of derivative present in an equation.
First order system is the one of the system used to represent transfer
function of the control system mathematically.
FIRST ORDER SYSTEM REPRESENATTION
•Consider
the following block diagram of the closed loop control
system. Here, an open loop transfer function, is connected with a
unity negative feedback.
•The
transfer function of the closed loop control system which has a unity
negative feedback is given as,
