• Hudhud originated from a low pressure system that
formed under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation in the Andaman Sea on October 6 Contd…. • 6th October : Low pressure formed over Andaman Sea • 8th October: intensified into a cyclonic storm • 9th October: severe cyclonic storm • 12th October: Hudhud reached its peak near Visakhapatnam, Andra Pradesh. • Speed of 185 km/h (115 mph) • Minimum central pressure 960 mbar. • Then it drifted to Uttar Pradesh and Nepal • Caused rain and heavy snowfall • Damages were estimated to be 219 billion • Estimated 124 deaths AIM • This prepared talk will try to analyze Hudhud 2014 in Nepal. Analysis of the Hudhud • Low pressure was formed on the 6th October • Upgraded to a depression by IMD on October 7; TCFA was issued • 8th October JTWC started issuing its advisories • 10th October JTWC classified as a Category 1 Tropical Cyclone • 11th October Hudhud underwen rapid intensification MOVEMENT OF THE HUDHUD Impact of the Hudhud • India: 35 teams were mobilized; 38 trains were cancelled • Andaman and Nicobar Island: closed schools; cancelled ferry services. • Andhra Pradesh: 700,000 people were evacuated; 61 deaths; 219 billion damage • Odisha: high alert; 2 people were killed • Uttar Pradesh: 18 people were killed Hudhud in Nepal • Resulted in snowstorm • 43 people were declared death • One of the worst trekking disaster • Series of avalanches in Annapurna and Dhaulagiri • Electric power, cell phone and internet connections failed in Manang • Rescue process were run by the government Impact in Nepal • Resulted in 43 dead • 175 injured • Criticized for not giving sufficient warning • Those killed were the result of inexperience • Various safety measures were taken after the incident • Survivor were left with severe frostbrite and limbs were amputaed Analysis of the incident • Disaster on Annapurna and Dhaulagiri • Disaster in the trekking routes • Attracts a range of tourists from around the work for hiking. RESCUE EFFORT • NA took Army helicopters for the rescue • Rescuers had only limited resources • It was difficult to rescue in the high altitude RESCUE EFFORT BY NA CONCLUSION • Severe weather was trigered • In Nepal 43 people were killed by the Hudhud • Mostly affected were in the trekking route of Annapurna RECOMMENDATION • Prior warning were made by Indian government but Nepal should have proper management • Advance technology for rescue in the high altitude should be adopted THANK YOU !!!!
