TRANSFORMER

• A transformer is a static
electrical device that transfers
electrical energy between two
or more circuits through
electromagnetic induction.
What is step up transformer?
• A transformer that increases
voltage from primary to secondary
(more secondary winding turns
than primary winding turns) is
called a step-up transformer.
What is a step up transformer used for?
• Step-up transformers are used at power
stations to produce the very high voltages
needed to transmit electricity through the
National Grid power lines. These high
voltages are too dangerous to use in the
home, so step-down transformers are
used locally to reduce the voltage to safe
levels.
What step down transformer?
• A transformer that decreases
voltage from primary to secondary
(less secondary winding turns
than primary winding turns) is
called a step-down transformer.
What is a step down transformer used for?
• It is designed to reduce the voltage from
the primary winding to the secondary
winding. This kind of transformer “steps
down” the voltage applied to it. As a step-
down unit, the transformer converts high-
voltage, low-current power into low-
voltage, high-current power.
