PREPOSITION:-

• A Preposition is a word used to link nouns,


pronouns or phrases to other words within a
sentence.
• Prepositions are usually short words ,and they
are normally placed directly in front of nouns .
TYPES OF PREPOSITION
• There are three types of preposition:-
1 Preposition of Time.
2. Preposition of Place.
3. Preposition of Direction.
1]Preposition of Time are those such as before , after , during ,
at , on , in ,before.
For example :- I was born at exactly 2am.
I was born on July 4th 1982.
I was born in 1982.
I was born 2 min before my twin brother.
I was born after the great war ended.
I learned to speak German during holidays.
TYPES OF PREPOSITION
• Preposition of place are:-
on , in , at ,under ,over
, inside , above , below.
Examples:-1] The cat is on the table.
2] The dog is in the kennel.

3] We will meet at the bus stand.


4] The cat is under the table.

5] Vehicles are moving over the bridge


6] The key is locked inside the car.

7] The birds are flying above the building.


8] There is room below the stairs.
Preposition of DIRECTIONS.
• Prepositions are:-
across,among,along,around.
examples:-
1] I ran across the street.
2] Each success has some failure along the way .
3] Distribute the sweets among kids.
4] They told stories around the campfire.
Some preposition examples with pictures.
• Some common prepositions are,
• Abroad, across ,along , anti , at , about , after,
amid , above, around , against, among , as,
below, beside , but , before , beneath
,between, by, behind , beyond , down, during,
despite , except , for , from, inside , into , in ,
near, on, out, of, off , onto, opposite, since, to,
than, through, toward, under, with, within,
without , up, upon.
Few more examples:-
• 1]Manjamma is an old poor lady. One day Mandanna, a
teacher gave her a thousand rupee note. She walked __
the town to buy rice ans vegetables.
• 2]My friend invited me __ her sister’s marriage. I
wanted to go to his home by bus.
• 3] The boys are playing __ the tree.
• 4]Gopinath is an arrogant person. I don’t like to have
any relationship __ him.
• 5] We set out on a voyage __ a ship to discover new
lands.
The CONJUNCTION(linking words)
• A Conjunction is a word which joins two words or two
sentences to complete their meaning.
some conjunction words are :- and, also, after, before,
because, but, either, else, hence, if, neither, or, only,
other, since, soon, still, so, therefore, though, too,
which, who, while, yet, although.
Examples:-1] Soumya and her sister entered the house
but there was no electricity.
2]Though Sridhar is rich man, he is not generous but his
wife helps the needy.
The CONJUNCTION
• 3] Naresh and Mahesh went to the bus station
but they missed the bus, as soon as they
entered the station, the bus left ,so they could
not board the bus.

• 4] Abdul Kalam was a disciplined person


though he was from a poor family.
The CONJUNCTION
• Types of conjunction are:-
there are 3 majour types of conjunction.
1]Coordinating conjunction.
2]Subordinating conjunction.
3]Correlative conjunction.

1] Coordinating conjunction:- it joins words, phrases or


clauses having similar grammatical structures.
for EX:- a] he bought a book and a pen
b] he always sits in the library or in the classroom.
C]She requested him for help but he did not help her.
The CONJUNCTION
• Subordinating conjunctions:- it joins a
subordinate (dependent) clause to a
main(independent) clause.
for Ex:- 1]We went to zoo where we saw an
elephant.
2]I will help whenever you need my help.
3]It makes me happy when you laugh.
4]Although it is raining it is too hot today.
5] As far as I know, he is a very nice person.
The CONJUNCTION
• Correlative conjunction:- these conjunctions are
paired words which joins words phrases or clauses
having reciprocal or complimentary relationship.
The common correlative conjunctions are as
follows:-
 Either – or.
 Neither – nor.
 Whether – or.
 Both – and.
 Not only – but also.
The CONJUNCTION
• Examples:- 1]He may buy either a laptop or a
camera.
2]She likes neither tea nor coffee.
3]Both pink and blue are nice colors.
4]She is interested not only in singing but also in
games.
Examples for conjunctions
• Fill in the blanks with appropriate linking words.
• 1] Sita__ Geeta are sisters. Sita is hard worker but Geeta is lazy.
• 2] Sunil is psysichiatrist. Everyone likes him__ he has lot of
patience.
• 3] __ he was rich, he is a miser.
• 4] Dr.RadhaKrishnan was both an educationist __ a statesman.
• 5] Rakesh can speak hindi fluently__ he can’t speak in English.
• 6] After the prayer, they entered their class rooms __ sat on
benches.
