First of all, we would like express our sincere

gratitude to our department of MECHANICAL
ENGINEERING to give us the chance and the
facilities to do the desired work. Secondly, we
would like to thank our advisor Ato Tesfaye
Wakessa who gave us the title for this project
and helped in giving valuable ideas and
suggestion, the way to do the project. Last but
not least, ATO Fikru who helped us in day-to-
day activities by giving helps in computer and

Hospitals in Ethiopia utilize flat bed which is
uncomfortable for patients, and rigid in nature and
also begun to utilize technologically advanced bed.
Besides it is imported from the leading
technological nations including Japan and the
United States at expensive price. This increase in
bed cost is then passed down to the patients
further increasing the cost for quality healthcare
and thus resulting in only the upper part of
citizens being able to utilize technologically
advanced hospital beds and care.

An adjustable bed provides for numerous
health issues. For example, people
suffering from acid reflux, (GERD Gastro
esophageal reflux disease is defined as
chronic symptoms or mucosal damage
produced by the abnormal reflux of
stomach acid to the esophagus; may
benefit from using an adjustable bed, as
elevating the upper body can assist in
keeping acid down.

body such as neck, the spline and the
knee.
Very comfortable and they adjust to
various position.
Compared to a standard bed, these types
of beds can provide comfort and support
for individuals with back pain, osteoarthritis
and multiple sclerosis.

by each nation providing its own unique
qualities and traits.
Intensive Care Unit beds are designed upon
effective treatment of the patient by both the
medical and nursing staffs.
Stryker bed allowed nurses to easily turn their
patients and help elevate bed sores caused by
long periods of immobility

The Epic II bed is include “Zoom” technology, which is
a bed frame that is motor driven to alleviate stress
caused to a nurse’s back by the constant pushing and
pulling of the bed during patient transport.
The Care Assist bed utilizes a number of mechanical
concepts to aid nurses in their daily tasks but still
requires quite a bit of manual assistance.
Paramount beds are very basic and have limited
patient functions. The bed’s backrest, knee bend, and
height can all be adjusted to different positions.

Inability of the patient to set the height at his/her
desired position and dependable on the medical
staff for the relaxation and comfort; can’t
alternated in to the comfortable position as per
the sleeper requirement.
Most of the time the patient sleeps on the ordinary
bed which is not suitable for them, specially for
those who suffering from back pain.

Traditional bed is not comfortable for
reading or watching television in bed.
Soreness of the body, sooth neck, and
shoulder tension are next ailment after
treatment.
And also high above the floor, and to get on
and get off of this bed might need
assistance.
