    Nikola Tesla was born in 1856 in Croatia and studied physics, math, and philosophy at university before moving to Paris and immigrating to the United States. He worked for Thomas Edison for a year before quitting and was later hired by George Westinghouse, receiving over 30 patents by 1888. Some of Tesla's most important inventions included electric oscillators, improving electric lights and developing the Tesla coil high-frequency transformer. However, his lab burned down in 1895, destroying his work, and he spent his later years living in a hotel in New York, obsessed with the number three until his death in 1943.
