Addiction usually refers to compulsive behavior that leads to negative effects. In most
addictions, people feel enforced to do certain activities so often that they become a
harmful habit, which then interferes with other important activities such as work or
school.
Social network is a phrase sometimes used to refer to someone spending too much
time using Facebook, WhatsApp and other forms of social media – so much so that it
interferes with other aspects of daily life.
WHY DO WE USE SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES?
Majority of people use Facebook and WhatsApp to keep in touch with friends and
family.
Social Networking websites are also used to meet up new people all around the world
and socialize.
Social Networking websites can be used to find our old friends by searching their
profiles over those websites.
Social Networking websites are also used by businesses for marketing of their
products.
PRIVACY ISSUES OF SOCIAL MEDIA
Providing a lot of Information: To use these sites, users have to provide quite a lot of
personal information. While this is true, many of the issues surrounding privacy or
lack of much more than the bio-data normally required.
Information spreads faster through a Social Networking Sites than through a real-life
networking. Information might be disclosed to a group of people unexpectedly,
because the digital information is easy copy able, can be stored indefinitely and is
searchable.
Social Network sites have financial incentives to generate revenue from the
information users upload. The company uses information from users profile, create
their marketing profiles and serve them with targeted ads, leaving users vulnerable to
harms.
DISADVANTAGES OF SOCIAL MEDIA ADDICTION ON SOCIAL
LIFE
Sleep : Using a laptop, cell phone, or iPad late at night can seriously mess with your sleep
patterns and habits, potentially leaving you with a sleep disorder. Late night use is also
associated with stress and depressive symptoms.
Depression : A Swedish study found that participants who felt the need to have their cell
phones constantly accessible were more likely to report depressive mental health problems.
Isolation : Excessive technology use can lead to feelings of isolation or the eventual isolation
of a person due to so much time spent with technology as opposed to making real connection.
Eating Disorder : It causes imbalance of diet and irregular eating habits.
SOCIAL MEDIA ADDICTION ON WORKPLACE / EDUCATION
Psychologists have long observed bad effects of social media on the mental health of children. One finding
suggests that children spending more than three hours a day on social media are twice as likely to suffer from
poor mental health. Their immersion in a virtual world delays their emotional and social development.
SOCIAL NETWORKING TREND IS TOO DANGEROUS
Social Networking trend is too dangerous, hundred and thousand of people have already died.
In the recent past, there have been many cases where people have hurt themselves very seriously while making
videos for TikTok. Some of these serious injuries even resulted in deaths.
The most recent case that was noted took place in April 2019. A
19-year-old boy, Salman Zakir, was accidentally shot by his friend Sohail in the cheek while trying to make a
TikTok video. The shooting ultimately resulted in the death of Salman and his other two friends were arrested for
the incident.
SOCIAL NETWORKING TREND IS TOO DANGEROUS
PUBG Addiction : PUBG is the currently most playing online game with 600Million Players in the world. The generation is
trapped in the trap of mobile games. It has been observed that teenagers are giving much more ratings to playing games on their
mobile phone as compared to outdoor/indoor games. Also, makers are developing such games like PUBG which is highly addictive
and dangerous as well. PUBG’s addictive person might get easily stressed out or face anxiety issues in public due to less social
interaction. Playing this game for too long can mess up your brain as you tend to stay alone. You might have started suffering
loneliness and depression. It has negative impacts psychologically and socially. It is time consuming and it maintains distance from
studies. It prefers the gamers to live isolated life. This attracts towards laziness and causes health injurious even death too.
