P ORTFO LIO
What is a portfolio?
• A compilation of materials that exemplifies your beliefs, skills, qualifications, education, training and
experiences. It provides insight into your personality and work ethic.
• A compilation of academic work and other forms of educational evidence.
• Portfolios can be:
a. physical/paper-based: which may include materials such as written assignments, journal entries,
completed tests, artwork, lab reports, physical projects (such as dioramas or models), and other material
evidence of learning progress and academic accomplishment, including awards, honors, certifications,
recommendations, written evaluations by teachers or peers, and self-reflections written by students.
b. digital/computer-based: which may include digital archives, presentations, blogs, or websites
that feature the same materials as physical portfolios, but that may also include content such as student-
created videos, multimedia presentations, spreadsheets, websites, photographs, or other digital artifacts
of learning.
What should be included in my portfolio?
• Save everything you create and decide later what you want to
include in your portfolio. A portfolio is a sample of your career
related skills and experiences and should be presented in your own
creative style.
• Portfolio components can vary depending on the use you are going
to give, but make sure you always include an attractive and
professional cover, and an accurate table of contents.
