TECHNOLOGY

Technology is the skills, methods, and processes used to achieve

goals. People can use technology to: Produce goods or services.
Carry out goals, such as scientific investigation or sending a
spaceship to the moon.

In production, Technology is using fewer resources to manufacture

goods more efficiently.
How technology has been
incorporated in production
 Automation- Here the production line
consists of mainly machines. Very few people
are needed to ensure that the machines
operate smoothly. Every process in making a
good is done by a machine.
 Mechanisation - Here production is done by
machines that are operated by people. Labour
force has to be trained on how to operate that
specific machine for better quality output.
How technology has been
incorporated in production
 Computer Aided Design (CAD) – Here computer
software is used to design products. It helps to
give visual details on how the product will look
like after it has been made and modifications
can be made using this software.
 Computer Aided Manufacture (CAM) – Here
computers act like supervisors they monitor the
production process. Incase of any problem they
alert the production team and the error is fixed.
How technology has been
incorporated in production
 Computer Integrated Manufacturing (CIM)
Here CAD and CAM are used together in the
production process. The computers that design
the products are directly linked to the machines
that make the final product.
 Other than in the production process, technology
has helped businesses serve customers better like
by:
 Electronic Point Of Sale (EPOS) – where bar codes for
products bought are scanned and details displayed
then a receipt is issued. This makes it faster to serve
many customers.
 Electronic Funds Transfer at Point Of Sale (EFTPOS)
– After selection of goods to take, the shoppers bank
card is swiped at the till and the shop gets payment
instantly from the shoppers bank for the goods
purchased
