TO WHAT EXTENT IS

THE GOVENRMENT
RESPONISBLE FOR THE
GAP BETWEEN THE
RICH AND THE POOR
TOPIC SENTENCE
• No society can be left to function without some sort of moderation to
endure that the gap between the rich and the poor doesn’t continue to
grow however the government can provide job opportunities and
education but can not monitor the equal distribution of wealth.
• "The justice for me is concentrated on lifting incomes of those that don't
have a decent income. It's not my burning ambition to make sure that
David Beckham earns less money", Tony Blair
ARGUMENT 1.
• The government can impose taxes on the higher income bracket to ensure
that the rich don’t continue to get richer and so the economic gap can be
bridged. Basic grocery items shouldn’t be taxed but expensive cars and
phones should be.
• Denmark has been able to achieve inequality levels that are among the
lowest in the world, for instance reducing income inequality by more than
40 percent and one of themajor reason is the high tax which is around
55%.
ARGUMENT 2.
The government can ensure schools and colleges of equal standards all over
the country so that students receive the same level of education and have an
equal chance of competing in the job market. Mostly the government
schools in our country lacks the standard of education compared to the
private schools therefore, these children find it extremely hard to look for
jobs of high pay scale
A study found that the gab in standardized test scores between affluent and
low-income students had grown by about 40 percent.
ARGUMENT 3
• The government can start business set ups where both skillful and
educated people can get jobs reducing unemployment which is one of the
major reason of the gap. Even though Pakistan is an agro based economy
it barely has institution that can train these farmers to adopt latest methods
and increase their yield. The government should focus on secondary and
tertiary industries as these goods when value added generate more
income.
COUNTER ARGUMENT 1
• Not everyone is equally hardworking, capable or intelligent. While some
are extremely passionate towards what they do others juts consider it as a
burden which doesn’t allow them to succeed and reach to greater heights.
COUNTER ARGUMENT 2
• Not all jobs pay as well and not everyone gets equal opportunties. With
the increase in use of technology the work which used to once require
laborers are now done but machines which has left a lot of people jobless.
In Pakistan many Banks don’t hire women and some companies also
remain hesitant while working with women, due to which the gap between
the rich and poor continue to grow as in Pakistan as 49% of the population
are women.
COUNTER ARGUMENT 3
• Some people inherit land and other financial assets from their ancestors
and the government can not really take over that land. The price of such
assets continue to rise with time, the government can ensure that taxes are
payed but can not seize it.
CONCLUSION
• A child born to the poorest 20 % of the population has only 1.9% chance
of ever moving to the richest 20%. The government can be held
responsible for not providing equal job opportunities and standardized
education but can not be blamed completely for the increasing divide
between the rich and the poor.
