Rule of thirds
• The rule of thirds theory is that an image can be broken up by
2 vertical lines and 2 horizontal lines making 9 squares.
• The theory is where the lines intersect are where the human
eye naturally falls
Lines
• Leading lines lead. They pull your eyes in a certain
direction eg horizontal, Vertical, Diagonal even Jagged or irregular.
Symmetry
• Symmetrical images create an aesthetic harmonious image. As
the two halfs match it creates a focal point in the center meaning
the leading lines will meet and continue.
patterns
• Patterns are everywhere and often enticing, they can
enhance composition, be detailed or abstract.
Negative space
• Negative space is anything in the image that isn't the subject
often just the background but can also be foreground.
