GPR Data Analysis

RADAN 7

Dynatest North America

What is GPR ?
Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is a Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) device, which we use at Dynatest for pavement
thickness calculation
What Outputs we get from GPR?
We get three files from each GPR Run:

.DZG file (it has the GPS data)

.DZT file (it has the GPR Signal data)
.DZX file ( it has the filters and the gain data)

Do I need to open 3 of them? NO

We need to open only the .DZT file and the
other files will be uploaded automatically.
However, the three files MUST always be in
the same Folder.
What software I need to analyze the Data?
Metal plate file
Before we start data analysis, we need to know that we have to types of data files:

1- The metal plate file (calibration file) (we do one calibration file at the beginning of the testing day and
at the end of the testing day)
2- Actual roadway data file (these files has the data for the roads we need to analyze)

Metal Plate file

Data analysis Steps
Step1:
Open the metal plate data file
“G” open Browse to your file
Data analysis Steps
Step1:
Open the metal plate data file
Note: when you open any file the first time RADAN 7 applies the filters and creates new file_# and
saves in a new subfolder named “proc”. RADAN 7 creates the subfolder “proc” automatically

WE ALWAYS CLOSE THE OLD FILE

AND WORK WITH THE NEW ONE

Step2:
Create a calibration file
RoadScan Horn Calibration OK

Note: a new file “CZT” will be created and

saved in the “proc” folder
Data analysis Steps
Step3:
Open the actual data file
“G” “open” Browse
Wait until it is processed and the new_# is created.
Data analysis Steps
Step4:
Apply the Calibration file “CZT” to the data file
RoadScan Reflection Picking User select Browse to the “CZT” file OK

Apply the Calibration file “CZT” to the data file
RoadScan Reflection Picking User select Browse to the “CZT” file OK

Note: again, a new file will be

created and we will work on
the new one

Step5:
Method 1 “EZ tracker”
RoadScan EZ Tracker Start

Note: You will need to inform RADAN, which layer you are calculating the depth for.
To do so: Focus Select the layer

Note: You may need to change the color and the display gain to be able to see the interfaces

Step5:
Method 1 “EZ tracker”

Start picking your layer(s) interface by the “mouse” left button you need to have a click every roughly 100 ft for
example and the software will interpolate the depth in between the two clicks
Note: Your layer interface should always be a white line in sandwiched between two black ones (Like OREO)

1st Click 2nd Click

Step5:
Method 1 “Select Block”

RoadScan select Block Make a block with your mouse around the OREO Right Click Add Points
Note: Colors will be reversed inside the block “Don’t worry”

Adding “Core” information

RoadScan Ground Truth Click on you screen at the same core station (Vertical location doesn’t matter)
Choose your layer Enter your Depth Rept for layers
