Introduction
Cervantes and Shakespeare were the greatest writers in their
languages and the biggest references of their fields, but it is
not fair to compare two artist if their work, styles and genre
was not the same. Although, there are several reasons that
can explain why nowadays Shakespeare is more famous than
Cervantes, and why recognition of Shakespeare plays is bigger
than the fame of Cervantes’ work.
Main Idea
Don Quixote of La Mancha is a satire novel and the message
of this book was to ridicule the knight fantastical stories that
other writers said that were true. Cervantes laughed at their
no realistic novels and he laughed at the society. Today is
difficult to understand Don Quixote of La Mancha if we do not
study the historical context.
Additionally, Romeo and Juliet is a very short dramatic play
about love, and Hamlet is about love and craziness. It means
that Shakespeare wrote about feelings that all people can
understand. People do not need to study history to
understand Shakespeare’s books.
Conclusion
To conclude, if Shakespeare wrote about society and
Cervantes wrote about love, maybe Cervantes were more
famous than Shakespeare nowadays. Shakespeare wrote
plays that people did see in the theater, many people goes
to the theater (and the cinemas). And Cervantes wrote
novels that are long and difficult to see in theaters: 400
years in the past little people could learn to read, but many
people could go to the theater.
“Give credit to
works,
not words.”
