1. A clause represents an event, our experience of the world. We can say
that in a clause, participants (generally realized by a noun phrase) are
involved in a process (realized by a verb phrase), in some particular
circumstances (adverb or prepositional phrase). This is the core of Halliday’s
experiential metafunction
