■ Antonin Leopold Dvorak
■ Born in September 8, 1841 in Bohemia (now a
part of Czech Republic)
■ He played violin, piano and organ.
■ Befriend Johannes Brahms
■ When he was sixteen he went to organ school
and played violin in Bedrich Smentana’s
orchestra in provisional theatre.
■ He fell in love with one of his students, Josefina
Cermakova, and wrote a song cycle, Cypress
Trees, in an attempt to woo her heart.
■ Antonin Dvorak married Anna he had 8 children.
■ He is part of a group of composers labeled
“Nationalist.”
■ Symphony No.9 (“From the New World”) is
probably Dvorak’s most famous piece. “New
World Symphony”
■ Musical Style influenced by Czech folk music
