TUTORIAL WEEK 16

GRACE ANGEL GEORGE

1. HOW WOULD YOU CHANGE THE ENDING TO MIDSUMMER'S
NIGHT'S DREAM?

 For me, I would like to change the ending starting from the scene in act 1, Lysander and Hermia
run off together into the woods to Lysander aunt's house to get married then chased by Demetrius
and Helena. Lysander and Hermia did not get lost and found Lysander’s aunt house but
Demetrius and Helena could not find them anywhere in the woods. While searching for the two
Athenian’s lover in the woods, they unexpectedly fall in love and Demetrius realized that his
love for Helena starts to sparks in his heart. He gave up to fight for his one-sided love and
decided to go back to the Athens with Helena, report to Hermia’s father that he is no longer in
love with his daughter. In the end, Lysander and Hermia finally gets their wishes to marry each
other in a small wedding ceremony surrounding the woods while Demetrius and Helena gets
married in Athens. Lysander and Hermia never goes back to the Athens and live their life to the
fullest in the woods . Both of the couples are happily married.
2. FIND A FAVOURITE LINE IN THE TEXT. EXPLAIN THE REASON HOW YOU CAN RELATE TO IT IN YOUR PERSONAL LIFE.

 My favourite line would be “Love looks not with the eyes, but with the mind, and therefore is
winged Cupid painted blind” (Act 1 Scene 1). This line tells us that love at first sight should
not be supported or encouraged. In fact, love should be the matter of the heart more than a
physical attraction. This can relate to my personal life because I tend to buy things from
online for the reason of it looks but I am too stubborn to search for more details about the
things that I want to buy. Eventually, the item that I bought did not match how it looks like in
online. This line really shows me to become more wiser and not to be deceived by the
appearance of the looks.
3. CHANGE THE SETTING OF MIDSUMMER'S NIGHT'S DREAM INTO A LOCAL SETTING.
NOW SUMMARISE THE PLAY AGAIN USING A LOCAL SETTING.

 If the setting of A Midsummer Night's Dream change into a local setting, it will takes place
partially in the city of Malaysia, and somewhere in the village of Malaysia. This split between
city and village has its own significant symbols. The city of Malaysia is portrayed as a place
of law and order, while the village is a perfect place to live in harmony with the nature. The
setting in city of Malaysia as a place of law and order is because the law is more stricter and
the rules must be obey or punishment will be given just like how Theseus offers Hermia two
choices if she refuses to marry, she will be given the death penalty or life as a celibate nun. In
the village, the villager represent as the fairy while the village head represent Oberon and
Titania. The place looks like a peaceful place but everything become chaos whenever the two
head village quarrelling with each other to show who is more richer.
