Source
The main sources of water for beijing are minyun(4.375 billion m3) and
huairou(98 million m3) reservoirs. Groundwater is mostly used for agricultural
purposes.

ISSUE: Not enough water in the reservoirs to provide for a large city. Groundwater
is almost dried up.

SOLUTION: To help address ongoing water shortages, the city’s supplies will be
supplemented by water diverted from the Yangtze River Basin as part of the
North-South Water Transfer Project. From 2010, one billion m3 is planned to be
diverted annually

CCTV HEADQUARTERS
Storage of water onsite
Both CCTV and local codes required greywater in addition to cold water and
drinking water, giving three cold water systems to integrate into an already
complex building.

The main water storage in the basement is transferred and distributed through the
headquarters.

Issue- Water storage in the basement of a building located in an earthquake prone

zone

Solutions
Water Distribution
The water supply system followed is break pressure tank system.

Issue: Cranked loop design of structure. Both CCTV and local codes required
greywater in addition to cold water and drinking water, giving three cold water
systems to integrate into an already complex building.

Solution: The main water storage in the basement is transferred and distributed to
draw-off points (break tanks) throughout the CCTV building.

Intermediate break tanks, with variable volume pump sets and sensitive pressure-
regulated control, will avoid excessive operating pressure and comply with local
plumbing code requirements.
Treatment of water
All water comes from local treatment plant and only drinking water is being treated
again, The drinking water will be derived from the incoming domestic main, and
then treated with localized particle and UV filtration at each zone before passing
into the storage tank.
