Introduction to the Philosophy of the Human Person
SS04/ SS03-1
Course Description

This course is an initiation to the activity and


process of the philosophical reflection as a search
for a synoptic vision of life. Topics to be discussed
include the human experience of the embodiment,
being the world with others and the
environment, freedom, intersubjectivity, and
being unto death.
Learning Competencies
1) Realize the value of doing philosophy in obtaining a broad
perspective on life.
2) Realize that the methods of philosophy lead to wisdom and truth.
3) Recognize own limitations and possibilities.
4) Recognize individuals’ interplay with its environment and society.
5) Manifest a sense of awareness and understanding on the concept
of the human being and embodiment.
6) Explore ideas regarding the self and others
7) Use different moral frameworks as vital part of human endeavor
and in analyzing cases of real-life moral dilemma
8) Explore meanings and interpretations related to death
9) Immerse one’s self in a philosophical activity and produce a
philosophical output.

Discussion Modes
1) Lesson Discussions will be asynchronous. Videos will be
uploaded in Youtube for less bandwidth use.
2) Synchronous meet-ups will be done once every two weeks.
It is not compulsory to attend these sessions as these are
only AMA sessions. Students can chat in their questions,
raise their hand, etc.
3) H5P Interactive videos are also optional to watch, these
are also done once every two weeks.
Communication Modes
1) The instructor is always available during Mondays to
Fridays at 7AM to 5PM. You can message thru course
message via BBL or thru messenger. However, there is
significant delay of response to messages done via BBL.
While the instructor is lenient on replying during outside
office hours (thru messenger), the instructor has the right
to block abusing students (since messenger is a personal
account).

2) A section has the option to include instructor in a


messenger group chat or a discord group if need be.
However, the instructor will still utilize BBL as the main

1) Students must mute their microphone during a
synchronous session except only if they are to ask a
question or raise a concern.

2) Students should always mind the deadlines. Submissions


done thru course message, messenger or other channel are
deemed irrelevant. Always submit on the right place at the
right time.

3) Students should always look at their Grades. If you


realize that your work is not yet checked or not yet graded
while your classmates already have, recheck if you have
Other Matters
1) Deadlines are set two weeks after an activity is set online.
However, activities before week 10 will temporarily be
reopened during week 10 (remediation period). Failing
students will also be notified thru course message.

2) This course is relying on SafeAssign to demerit


plagiarized submissions. The maximum allowable match
result is 30%. Beyond that, submissions are considered
plagiarized.

3) Some threads in discussion board are required while


some are not. All participation in threads are considered

Task:
Submit a 10-minute minimum video recording or audio recording of a
philosophical discussion. A group can choose a philosophical question
from the posts in Discussion Board in week 1 task.
 
(Students can use MS teams, Zoom, or any platform for your discussion.
You can record it and upload it via youtube, google drive, or any
platform; link must be submitted in BBL)

Argumentation 30/30 (Do they really question and answer the core of
the problem?)

understand what each one is really trying to explain?)

OBE 2: (Philosophical Essay)
 
This part is individual and is a 1000-word minimum philosophical essay.
The question assigned is the question assigned in the first part.
 
Grade Criteria:
Argumentation 30/30 (Is the question really answered in a way with
philosophical depth?)
Clarity 15/15 (Is the essay clear on what it wants to say?)
Charity 15/15 (Does the essay give due consideration for possible
counterarguments?)
