Recycled Polyethylene Terephthalate

(PET) Fibers in Concrete

Name : Dissanayake S.A.S.D

Reg No : EG/2018/3319
Introduction
• Polyethylene Terephthalate is the most used material in recycled industry.
• Pet fibers are added according to the proportions of total volume of concrete
mixture.
• After adding recycled PET fibers, the mechanical properties of the concrete are
changed.
 Compressive strength
 Tensile strength
 Workability
 Flexural strength
 Impact resistance
 Energy absorption
Application

• Mainly PET fibers are used in concrete cylindrical pipes and concrete
floor

• Concrete cylindrical pipes are used for

o Underground pipe network
Waste water pipe and Storm water pipe
o Constructing deep wells, soakage pits and culverts in road
o Irrigation systems

• Concrete floors are used for mechanical floors

Advantages and Disadvantages of PET Fibers

Advantages Disadvantages
• Not subject to corrosion • Less workability

• Durability is high

• Self weight can be reduced

• Cost can be reduced

• Reduce environmental pollution

Conclusion

• PET reinforced concrete cylindrical pipes are performed better than

tropical concrete

• The crack width and crack length of PET fiber reinforced concrete are
lower than typical reinforced concrete

• Fiber reinforced concrete pipes have considerable strength, low cost

and low weight

• It can be used to reduce environmental pollution.

• It increases the energy absorption capacity of the slap panel
