ART
Throughout history, art has been defined
many ways. One modern definition of art
is the expression or application of human
creative skill and imagination… producing
works to be appreciated primarily for their
beauty or emotional power." ... As you can
see, art is defined by its genesis in the
human mind.
 The three classical branches of art are painting,
sculpture and architecture. Music, theatre, film, dance,
and other performing arts, as well as literature and other
media such as interactive media, are included in a
broader definition of the arts.
 Who created art? Greek and Etruscan artists built on the
artistic foundations of Egypt, further developing the arts
of sculpture, painting, architecture, and ceramics. Greek
art started as smaller and simpler than Egyptian art, and
the influence of Egyptian art on the Greeks started in the
Cycladic islands between 3300–3200 BCE.
The definition of art has generally fallen into
three categories: representation, expression,
and form. Art as Representation or
Mimesis. ... For this reason, the primary
meaning of art was, for centuries, defined as
the representation or replication of something
that is beautiful or meaningful.

styles, but performance artists in general share the ideal of
producing art which challenges traditional understandings
of theater, and which also seeks to challenge our
preconceived ideas about moral and political issues, as
well as how we view ourselves
What are the goals of performance art?
Much performance art seeks to
accomplish what Abramovic did in this
work, which is to involve the audience
directly in the performance with the
ultimate goal of enabling an insight of
