WHAT IS ART?

ART

• “Aryan” root word “AR” which means to put together.

• Latin word “ARS” which means skills/ability

- cover those areas of artistic creativity

- embraces the visual arts, literature, music, and dance.

- expresses aesthetic ideas by use of skill and imagination


DIVISION OF ARTS

• Visual arts – arts that are primarily seen, occupies space

( e.g. painting, sculptures, and architectures)

• Auditory arts – heard

(e.g. music and poetry)

• Combined/performing arts – combines visual and auditory elements

(e.g. drama and theatre, dancing, cinema & TV, opera)

MISCONCEPTION
People feel that what is considered artistic are only
those which have been made long time ago.

ART INVOLVES EXPERIENCE

Art is just experience. By experience, we mean the “actual doing of


something”(Dudley et al., 1960) and it also affirmed that art depends
on experience, and if one is to know art, he must know it not as fact or
information but as an experience.
