his lineage: Paternal Ancestors of Rizal Domingo Lam-co (1662 – c. 1732) • A Chinese immigrant from Amoy, China • Used “Mercado” as his surname in 1731. • Was close friends with Spanish friars Francisco Marquez and Juan Caballero • Married a half-Chinese lady, Ines dela Rosa. • Rizal’s great-great grand father Francisco Mercado • Born in Biñan, Laguna in 1731 • Son of Domingo Lam-co and Ines dela Rosa • Was named after mestizo friar known for his botanical study. • Married Bernarda Monicha of San Pedro, Laguna • Had five children; namely, Clemente, Benito, Tomas, Evarista and Juan Mercado. • Was elected Gobernadorcillo (municipal mayor) of Biñan in 1783.
