Changes during puberty

GRADE 5
Puberty is the process through which a
child’s body develops to maturity
The human brain releases hormonal
signals, which initiate the production
of sex hormones in the gonads- the
ovaries in females and testes in males.
In female, the ovaries produce and
release the hormones estrogen and
progesterone.
These hormones are responsible for the
enlargement of breast, widening of the
hips and growth of public hairs and
signal the start of menstruation.
While in the male, the hormone
testosterone is responsible for the
broadening of the shoulder, growth of
facial hair, and growth spurt.
Changes in activities of both male and
female can also be observed.
