3- Diel Alder

Reaction
Discovered by Otto Diel and Kurt
Alder in 1928. they were
awarded Nobel prize for this
reaction.

“ It is an addition reaction of
conjugate dienes to an alkene
(dienophile) to produce
cyclohexene .”

The simplest example is the

reaction of 1,3-butadiene with
ethene to form cyclohexene:

Stereoselectivity
of Diel Alder
reeaction
Substituents in a cis relationship
on the double bond of the
dienophile give rise to
substituents that are cis, on
those same carbons with respect
to the cyclohexene ring.
4- Grignard
Reaction
Grignard reagent has
formula RMgX.
Named after Victor
Grignard (French
Chemist) who was
awarded nobelmprize in
1900.
It is generated by reacting
Alkyl halide with Mg
metal in the presence of
Diethyl ether.
Mechanism
of Grignard
Reaction
Grignard reaction is addition of
an organometallic halide to a
ketone or aldehyde to form
primary, secondary or tertiary
alcohol.
