“Advantages and Disadvantages of

Wired & Wireless Network”

WHAT IS A WIRED NETWORK?

A wired network uses cables to connect devices, such as

laptop or desktop computers, to the Internet or another
network.  Transmission is where both the sender and the
receiver are stationary at a fixed location.
ADVANTAGES OF WIRED NETWORK

It provides reliable connection and does not

face any interference as a wireless network
does.

It is perfect for small network connections

at office or home which include a router
and several desktop PCs and other
devices.

A wired Ethernet connection is easy to

setup. Just plug in, and you are ready to use
the internet.
You do not have to worry about the
security breach in your network if you are
using the wired technology.

The wired connection is more secure unless

someone breaks the connection and tap the
signal.

It provides constant and faster speed than a

wireless connection because it provides one-
to-one connection.
The network offer higher data rate and
hence fast transfer of information.

It offers higher reliability and better quality

of service (Qos).

Cables offer higher bandwidth.

DISADVANTAGES OF WIRED NETWORK

One Ethernet cable can provide a connection output

to only one PC or device unlike to a wireless
network which allows you to connect multiple
devices to the single router.

If you are using mobile devices like smart phones,

laptops, etc., then the wired network is not
convenient to use. Ethernet network has physical
limitations to reach all the areas of your home or
office.
Wired connection does not provide
mobility during usage.

Installation of wired network is very

difficult. Moreover it is difficult to
troubleshoot in faulty situation.

There are more chances of damage to wired

technology products compare to wireless
counterpart.
It requires devices such as amplifiers,
regenerators, repeaters, hubs and switches
in order to extend the coverage distance.

It requires more time to install.

If you plan to expand your network, then it

can become costly and can take significant
amount of time to establish the network.
WHAT IS A WIRELESS NETWORK?

A wireless network allows devices to stay connected to

the network but roam un-tethered to any wires. Access
points amplify Wi-Fi signals, so a device can be far from
a router but still be connected to the network.
ADVANTAGES OF WIRELESS NETWORK

Users can move around freely within the area

of the network with their laptops, handheld
devices etc and get an internet connection.

Users are also able to share files and other

resources with other devices that are connected
to the network without having to be cabled to a
port.

Wireless networks can sometimes handle a

larger amount of users because they are not
limited by a specific number of connection
ports.
If you are a business such as a café, having a wireless
network that is accessible to customers can bring you
extra business. Customers generally love wireless
networks because they are convenient.

Can be a considerable advantage in terms of

time and expense. It also makes it easier to
add extra devices to the network, as no new
cabling is needed.

Instant transfer of information to social media

is made much easier.
DISADVANTAGES OF WIRELESS NETWORK

It can require extra costs and equipment to set up,

although increasingly routers have built-in wireless
capability, as do devices such as laptops, handheld
devices, modern DVD players, and TVs.

Setting up a wireless network can sometimes be

difficult for people who are not experienced with
computers.
File-sharing transfer speeds are normally slower with
wireless networks than they are with cabled. The
speeds can also vary considerably according to your
location in relation to the network.

The general speed of a wireless connection is also

usually much slower than a wired one. The connection
also gets worse the farther you are from the router,
which can be a problem in a large building or space.

Wireless connections can be obstructed by

everyday household items and structures such
as walls, ceilings, and furniture.
