The Education Network

2020/21
Welcome to training
•Congratulations on being elected
Abdi Ahmed
into your role and welcome to this Postgraduate Officer
training session for the Education
Network!

•We are your elected Education

and Postgraduate Officers for this
year.

Becca Craven
Education Officer
What does the SU do?
You should have seen the video before this that
outlines what the SU does, but the key points to
remember are;
• The SU is a separate organisation to the University
• It represents students’ needs, protects students’
rights and makes students’ voices heard
Officer Objectives
Both Officers have a set of objectives to work towards throughout
the year based on the manifesto on which they were elected.

These objectives will be shared with you during the November,

hopefully via a Faculty based TEAMS training (date to follow).
The Education
Network
What is the Education Network?
The Education Network compromises all of our 800+ academic reps across
all 5 Faculties, and is co-chaired by the Education and Postgraduate Officers

The purpose of the Network is to represent the academic interests of students

to the University to advance the academic experience of all students.

This can be done by campaigns on academic issues, development of

academic policy both within the Union and University and raising the profile
of the Network to both students and staff.
Co-chair the Network, and receive Co-chair the Network, and receive
feedback from Faculty and Education feedback from Faculty Reps to be
Reps to be able to represent students able to represent Postgraduate
and their academic experiences to the
University student experiences to the University
Faculty Reps are the main point of contact for
Education Reps/PG Course Reps and should be
aware of any major academic issues within their
Faculty and raise it with the relevant Officer

Education Reps are the first point of

contact for Course Reps and should be
aware of all the academic and student
experience matters in their school and
escalate these to the Faculty Rep or
Education Officer if required
Course Reps collect feedback from
students to present to staff at LCF’s,
and raise any problems with the
relevant Education (for UG students)
or Faculty Rep (for PG students)
How do you fit in?
Course Reps

• As course reps you are the first point of contact between students
and the Education Network by collating feedback from your peers
and passing this back to academics via Learning Community
Forum (LCF) meetings and to Education/Faculty Reps.
• Pass any relevant information from the SU, Faculty and/or
Education Reps to students on your course.
• Attend the termly Faculty Forum meetings
• As a course rep you can also be involved in campaigns and
projects within schools, faculties, the Education Network and the
SU
What’s next?
• Complete your online training on Moodle by Friday 16th
October
• Your Education Rep should be in touch to organise a pre-LCF
meeting to help you prepare for the first meeting with the
academic staff.
• Your course should also be in touch to introduce themselves
and provide any further guidance about your role this year
• November training update – dates to follow
