WHAT IS HAIKU?
• Haiku is a type of short form poetry originally from Japan.
• A haiku is a specific type of Japanese poem which has 17 syllables
divided into three lines of 5, 7, and 5 syllables.
 MECHANICS
1.

Open to all Intermediate and Senior High students.
2. Contestants will be given a photo as inspiration of their
composition.
3. Composition must be written in Google Docs.
4. The teacher-facilitator will monitor the written inputs of the
students.
5. No adults are allowed to sit beside the contestants during the contest
proper.
6. The camera must consistently open.
7. Requirements: HAIKU 5/7/5 syllable count. Three stanzas per entry
8. Contestants are given 1 hour and 30 minutes to write their
compositions.
9. Contestants are task to write three poem entries.
10. The teacher-facilitator will share the document to each contestant’s
google docs.
11. Failure to submit beyond the given time is considered disqualified.
