Sifting or Sieving

It is used to separate a dry mixture which contains

substances of different sizes by passing it through a sieve.

Mixtures with big and fine components can be
separated by sieving. Sieving involves using strainer
or a big screen to separate the components of solid
mixtures. The strainer allows only the fine particles
through it and prevents the larger ones. The sieving
technique is used in separating fine sand from rocks
in the mixtures of gravel and sand.
Sieve
It is a device containing tiny holes and
separating wanted elements from unwanted
material.
