LESSON 38 WHAT

ARE THE SOURCES

OF WATER USED IN
DAILY ACTIVITIES?
SCIENCE 4 – SSES
FOURTH QUARTER
REVIEW:
Identify what is being described in each statement.
1. It is made up of tiny loose particles of rocks on the surface of Earth.
2. Particles are packed together tightly.
3. It is a mixture of sand and clay.
4. It is sticky when wet and has the finest texture.
5. Particles are coarse and loose.
6. It is a mixture of rock particles and decaying plants and animals.
7. It cannot hold water for a long time.
8. Its particle may approximately .05-2.0 millimeters.
9. It is widely used in pottery and in the ceramic industry.
10.It has a fine texture.
USE OF FERTILIZER FOR SOIL
CONSERVATION

Agriculturists and farmers use fertilizers

to restore the fertility of the topsoil. They
use two types of fertilizers:
1.Organic Fertilizers
2.Commercial Inorganic Fertilizers
ORGANIC FERTILIZERS

These are fertilizers that come from living

things.
- Animal Manure
- Weeds
- Grass
- Other Plants
- Compost
COMMERCIAL INORGANIC FERTILIZERS

They are made from chemical compounds.

They do not contain humus or the essential
nutrients of soil.

-Nitrogen
-Phosphorous
-Potassium
GROUP ACTIVITY:
Title: How can you prove that organic fertilizer can make the plants grow faster?
Problem: Does fertilizer make plants grow faster?
Materials:

- 2 small pots of the same size

- Oregano stems
- Same type of soil
- Dry grass cuttings
- Egg shell
- Rice Husk
Study the different
water forms in the
pictures.

ZONE OF SATURATION

The tiny spaces or pores in

the soil or rocks that are filled
by water.
WATER TABLE

The upper surface of the zone of

saturation which divides the line
between the saturated rocks filled with
water and the unsaturated rocks that
can still absorb water.
AQUIFERS
The porous saturated layers of sand, gravel,
and bedrock that can hold great amount of
water.
Considered as great sources of groundwater
which supply fresh water for human
consumption.
The water part of the earth is called
hydrosphere or “water sphere”. This covers
three-fourths of its surface. Therefore, water
covers a larger area of its surface than land. That is
why the earth is called “the blue planet”. Water
gives the earth its characteristics of blue color as
seen from outer space.
Water continuously moved in the earth’s surface in a
process called water cycle.
