Biography.
o Susan B. Anthony was born on February 15, 1820 and she passed away on march 13,
1906.
o She was the second child of seven. Although her parents, Daniel and Lucy Anthony, were
liberal, they raised their children in a strict manner and with the quacker religion.Her
parents made their sons and daughters work equally, reinforcing gender equality.
o Daniel Anthony believed it was important for both sexes to receive a good education, so
he created a private school for their children, since a professor at the school refused to
teach the point of division to Susan, because according to him it was not appropriate for
girls.
Who was she.
o Was an American social reformer and women's rights activist who played a pivotal role in
the women's suffrage movement. Along with Elizabeth Cady Stanton, she traveled around
the country delivering speeches in favor of women's suffrage.
o She became an abolition activist, even though most people thought it was improper for
women to give speeches in public. Anthony made many passionate speeches against
slavery.
o She traveled the country and gave speeches demanding that women be given the right to
vote. At times, she risked being arrested for sharing her ideas in public.
o In 1868 she became editor of the Association’s newspaper, ‘’The Revolution’’, which
helped to spread the ideas of equality and rights for women. She became famous
throughout the county. Many people admired her, yet others hated her ideas.
